Woman shot when answering door
LORDSTOWN -- Police are investigating the shooting of a woman who was wounded when she answered her front door.
Linda Millikin, 49, was shot between 4:30 and 4:45 a.m. Sunday at her home at 4229 Highland Ave.
She was released Sunday afternoon from Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital after being treated for a bullet wound of the left thigh.
Millikin told police that she, her live-in boyfriend, Robert Lewis, and their 12-year-old son, were awakened by their barking dogs.
Police Chief Brent Milhoan said Millikin went to the front door and heard a man outside but couldn't hear what he was saying because of the barking.
When she opened the front door, a gunman fired a shot through the glass storm door, striking her, the chief said.
The gunman, who was described as wearing a camouflage jacket and ski mask, fired three or four more times as he ran off.
Lewis drove Millikin to the hospital. The hospital notified police, Milhoan said. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation is assisting in the investigation.
