Three men attacked on street

A cashier called the police.
AUSTINTOWN -- A Youngstown man is charged with felonious assault after three men were attacked at a traffic light in the township.
The assault happened about 2:45 a.m. Monday, according to a police report.
Three men told police they had left Bill's Place on Mahoning Avenue, had checked to see if another business was open, and when it was not they headed down Raccoon Road to New Road. As they were turning on to New Road, they were almost rear-ended by another car, one of the men reported.
That car began following them close, and its driver acted like he was going to run them off road. When they had to stop at the red light at New Road and state Route 46, three men got out of the car that had been following them.
One man went to the victims' driver's side window with a large, steel folding knife in his hand. He punched out the window and when he did, the driver was hit on his eye, cheek and fingers by the knife, police said.
One of the other assailants stood in front of the car, and all three began beating on the victims' car, causing damage, police said.
The victims sped away and drove north on Route 46 to a Sheetz store, where the cashier called police.
Police found the suspects' car moments later traveling east on Mahoning Avenue, the report said.
Jeffrey Jackson, 23, 3100 Flo-Lor Drive, No. 12, was taken out of the back seat. An officer found a steel folding knife in his pants pocket, the report said. He is charged with second-degree felonious assault and was arraigned Monday in Mahoning County Court No. 4. He will have a pretrial hearing Feb. 27. He is free on $25,000 bond.
The car driver, David E. Best, 31, 8500 Berlin Station Road, Canfield, is charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated. He was set to be arraigned Monday evening in county court.
Police released a third suspect, but criminal damaging charges are possible against him.
