Hornickles mark 50th anniversary during a cruise
YOUNGSTOWN -- Mr. and Mrs. Don Hornickle, 6068 Glenridge Road, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary during a cruise from Dec. 31 to Jan. 7 to the western Caribbean.
Their family includes Brenda Hornickle and her husband, Larry Lawrence, of Lakeland, Fla.; John A. Hornickle of Kent, Wash.; and one grandchild.
The former Mary Beth Zimmerman and Mr. Hornickle were married Jan. 7, 1956, at the Presbyterian manse in Niles.
Mrs. Hornickle, a homemaker, was an elementary teacher with Youngstown City Schools for three years before her marriage. She is a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where she is involved in United Methodist Women, the choir and teaching Sunday school. She is also a member of Mahoning Retired Teachers Association and Ohio Retired Teachers Association.
Mr. Hornickle served in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952. He retired in 1986 after 36 years with several public school systems as teacher, supervisor and administrator. The final eight years were as superintendent of Springfield Local Schools in Mahoning County. He is a member of Richard Brown Memorial United Methodist Church, where he teaches a Sunday school class.
Mr. Hornickle, a member and former president of MRTA, is also a member of the ORTA, for which he served eight years on the board and in 2004 as president.
