AKRON -- Freshman Stephanie Jarvis (Canfield) broke her own school record in the pole vault at the Kangaroo Invitational Friday.
Jarvis cleared 10 feet, 11 3/4 inches, finishing third, as the women's squad placed third overall.
Damian Wright, John Sheppard, R.D. Goodright and Jarrod Davis each finished second to lead the men's team to a second-place finish.
Wright ran 22.47 seconds in the 200 meters, while Sheppard was second in the mile (4:27.33), Goodright was second in the 800 (1:56.56) and Davis was second in the weight throw (58 feet, 1 3/4 inches).
Goodright, Scott Streiner, Harold Jones and Justin Carolyne were second in the 4x400 relay.
Luke McCluggage (Jackson-Milton) finished third in the 3,000 (9:20.32), Shayne York was third in the triple jump (43-1 1/2) and Drew Weizer was third in the weight throw (55-2 1/4).
Aaron Merrill had the second-best shot put (52 1 3/4) in YSU history to place fourth, while Joe Lahmon in the weight throw, Clarence Howell in the triple jump, Dan Nemergut in the 3,000 and Dave Mealy in the mile were fourth in their events.
Danielle Bolt was second in the 60 (7.80) and Satara Freeman was second in the 60 hurdles (8.99). Bolt, Katie Betts, Darcelle Formby and Emily Wollet were second in the 4x400 relay.
Jen Grayson was fourth in the hurdles (9.60) and the high jump (5-4 1/4). Kari Kreutzfeld was fourth in the long jump (15-6 1/4).
Bethany Anderson was fourth in the shot put (44-3 1/2) while Lindsey Hill placed fifth (41-10 3/4). Anderson was fifth (54-11 1/4) in the weight throw.
Swimming and diving
YOUNGSTOWN -- Brittany Senn won two individual events and anchored YSU's winning 200-yard freestyle relay as YSU defeated Denison 132-109 Saturday at the Beeghly Natatorium.
Kelly Reese, Olivia Arnold and Julia Darling also picked up two victories for the Penguins. Senn won the 50 free (25.29 seconds) and the 100 free (55.16). She teamed up with Leigh Bareman, Jessica Front and Erin-Michelle Gordon in the 200 free relay.
Reese won the 3-meter board with a collegiate-best score of 241.30 and the 1-meter (230.15). Arnold won the 1,000 free (10:49.40) and the 500 free (5:19.45), and Darling won the 200 IM (2:16.36) and the 200 breast (2:30.88). Becky Bertuzzi added a win in the 200 free (2:01.37).
Cortney Harless was second in both diving events and Front was second in the 200 free.
Bareman was second in the 50 free and Natasha Bray was second in the 200 back.

YOUNGSTOWN -- Cardinal Mooney High will hold the Ron Stoops Scholarship Dinner and Athletic Hall of Fame Feb. 19 at Mr. Anthony's.
Inductees are Colleen Camppelli (class of 1990), basketball; Myke Clarett ('77), football; James W. Fordyce ('82), football; Jeff Johnson ('75), football; Christopher Mang ('89), basketball; Michael W. McGlone ('85), football; Jaime J. Mendez III ('89), football; Sherry Mihin Weaver ('86), softball; Efren Mojica Jr. ('89), tennis; Scott Parker ('89), basketball; Dawn L. Powell ('87), track, and Douglas W. Ross ('90), golf.

Track/cross countrygroup gives awards
COLUMBUS -- Dick Kenney, retired Fitch High teacher and athletic director; Jack Tominey, Howland track and field and cross country coach; Rick Wilson, Salem boys cross country coach; Troy Massey, Poland girls track coach; Chris Flenour, Lordstown boys track coach and Mary Wilson, Salem girls cross country coach, were honored recently at the Ohio Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches Hall of Fame banquet.
Kenney received the Distinguished Service Award and Tominey was given the Sportsmanship, Ethics and Integrity Award.
Wilson was presented the Fred Dafler Career State Coach of the Year award. Massey was honored the District 1 girls track coach of the year and Flenour was District 1 boys track coach of the year.
Rick Wilson and Mary Wilson were District 1 boys and girls cross country coaches of the year.
Southington HOF
SOUTHINGTON -- Connie Farmer Silvernail, class of 1982, basketball; Kelly Nelson-Skaggs, class of 1984, softball and Robert Baugher, Jr., class of 1985, football and the 1977-78 boys basketball team were inducted into the Chalker Athletic Hall of Fame.
Rev. Mark Rasey, class of 1983, gave the invocation and benediction. Bruce Burge, class of 1978, was the guest speaker and was also an inductee of the basketball team.
Some the inductees made the trip for the honor from as far away as Tennessee, Indiana and California.
Nikki Soriceto attend Tiffin
CANFIELD -- Nikki Sorice, a senior at Canfield High School, will play soccer at Tiffin Univ. next fall.
Sorice was a four-year selection to the All-Metro Athletic Conference team and was picked all-district three times.
She will study Criminal Justice at Tiffin.
Boxing roundup
*YOUNGSTOWN -- Brian Minto's heavyweight eight-rounder was taken off the "Night of Champions" card at the Tropicana Casino and Resort. The opponent, Andy Sample, was unable to pass the prefight physical.
Warren's Zack Page, another fighter scheduled on a big heavyweight fight in Germany against Timo Hoffman, also didn't fight his scheduled bout due to passport problems.
*PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- Frank Tempesta the Warren policeman known as "The Fighting Cop" is beginning to get a lot of attention from amateur boxing fans. This weekend, at Saddleridge Club in Station Square, on a 10-bout card originally scheduled for Jan. 5, Tempesta went to 5-0, all knockouts, when he beat Bob Sheehan (Pittsburgh Boxing Club) in the first round.
