Guyer joined Cub Scout Pack 22 in 1994 and received the highest Cub award, the Arrow of Light, in 1998. He earned his Religious Emblem (God and Country) as a Cub Scout through Concordia Lutheran Church. He became a Boy Scout in 1998 and was inducted into the Order of the Arrow Brotherhood. He is also a 5th-year Pipestone Holder from Seven Ranges Scout Reservation, where he earned the BSA Mile Swim award for seven consecutive years. He earned 25 merit badges while working to become the troop's senior patrol leader, assistant patrol leader, patrol leader, assistant patrol leader, scribe and quartermaster.
His Eagle service project was building three portable picnic tables to replace tables that had been stolen from the preschool at St. Christine Parish. The new tables now can be moved for safekeeping when not in use due to inclement weather.
