EAST LIVERPOOL -- Columbiana County commissioners passed a proclamation last week to honor the Rev. Gaylord Cox Sr. on his 50th anniversary as a pastor. The Rev. Mr. Cox, 81, continues to serve at Grace Baptist Church, 1840 Dresden Ave., where he has worked for 41 years. In his years of ministry, he has missed church on Sunday only twice. Mr. Cox still works 10 or more hours a day and has no plans to retire.
Rosary cenacle
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Shrine of Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted, 517 S. Belle Vista Ave., and the Queen of the Holy Rosary Prayer Group will have rosary cenacle at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. Refreshments will follow in the social hall.
Chaplains' observance
NEWTON FALLS -- Newton Falls Veterans Organization will observe Religious Emphasis Week Feb. 5-11 and Four Chaplains' Sunday on Feb. 5 with a service at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Newton Falls, 2640 S. Canal St. S.W. Veterans who wish to participate in the program should arrive by 10:30. Veterans and clergy plan a special program for the observance of the 63rd anniversary of the sinking of the USS Dorchester during World War II. The ship's four chaplains, a rabbi, a Catholic priest and two Protestant ministers, handed out life belts and then gave up their own to sailors.
Missions trip
CANFIELD -- The Rev. Kathryn Adams of Protestant Campus Ministry at Youngstown State University will lead a volunteer-in-mission trip Aug. 2-16 to an orphanage in Krasnodar, Russia. An informational meeting is planned at 3 p.m. Sunday at Western Reserve United Methodist Church, state Route 62. Team members will live and work in the orphanage, provide needed supplies and interact with the children. The trip also will include two days in Moscow. Seminar on addiction
NILES -- Pleasant Valley Evangelical Church, 2055 Pleasant Valley Road, will have a seminar, "Overcoming Addiction: Helping People Find Freedom in Christ," from 9 a.m. to noon Feb. 4. Program on marriage
VILLA MARIA, Pa. -- Engaged couples may participate in a weekend program, "Marriage Preparation: It's About the Loving," Feb. 17-19 at Villa Maria Retreat Center, Evergreen Road. Spiritual retreat
VILLA MARIA, Pa. -- EverGreen, a ministry of the Sisters f the Humility of Mary, will sponsor a spiritual retreat from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 18 at Villa Maria Community Center, Evergreen Road.
