Air Force
Air Force Tech. Sgt. Lawrence R. Morris retired from the military after 20 years of service. His most recent military assignment was as a fire and emergency services flight dispatch supervisor with the 509th Civil Engineer Squadron, Whiteman Air Force Base, Mo.
Morris, a 1984 graduate of East Liverpool High School, is the son of Lawrence A. and Patricia R. Morris of East Liverpool. Hewill be working as a civilian contract firefighter at Bagram Air Base, Afghanistan.
HONORS
Yankel receives award
Air Force civilian employee James Yankel has been named the 2005 Chief Engineer of the Year.
Yankel, who has 25 years of military service, is assigned to the Aeronautical Systems Center, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton. He is the son of Richard and Dorothy Yankel of Boardman. His wife, Tea, is the daughter of Mary E. Smith of Dayton.
Yankel graduated in 1975 from Cardinal Mooney High School, and he received his bachelor's degree in 1980 from Youngstown State University. He earned a master's degree in 1991 from the University of Dayton.
DEPLOYED
Mansfield on carrier
Navy Seaman Ralph T. Mansfield, son of Ralph T. Mansfield III of Poland, is deployed with Strike Fighter Squadron 87 aboard the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt as part of Operation Steel Curtain, which provided aerial support for U.S. Marine and Iraqi forces and prevented insurgents from entering Iraq through the Syrian Border.
Bowman aboard destroyer
Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Tod R. Bowman, son of William G. Bowman Sr. of Mercer, Pa., is deployed aboard the guided-missile destroyer USS Donald Cook. The ship provided surveillance, reconnaissance and close air support to ground forces in Iraq as part of the Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group during Operation Steel Curtain and Maritime Security Operations. Bowman is a 1981 graduate of Reynolds High School of Greenville, Pa.
Holko sent overseas
Air Force Reserve Capt. Andrew R. Holko is deployed overseas at a forward operating location in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Holko, a maintenance officer normally assigned to the 910th Airlift Wing at the Youngstown Air Reserve Station in Vienna, is the son of Andrew and Donna Holko of Bristolville. The captain received a bachelor's degree in 1985 from West Virginia University.

910TH AIRLIFT WING
Two arrive for duty
Air Force Reserve Airmen 1st Class Lashaunta G. Waller and Ashley M. Noday have arrived for duty at the 910th Airlift Wing in Vienna.
Waller, a life support specialist, is the daughter of David Hughes of Youngstown. Her mother and stepfather, Linda and Darryl Williams, live in Austintown. Waller graduated in 1997 from Austintown Fitch High School, and in 1998 from the Community College of the Air Force.
Noday, an aircrew life support apprentice, is the daughter of Tammy and Joe Noday of Rogers. She is a 2005 graduate of Beaver High School, Lisbon.
