RESTAURANT CRASH 16-year-old girl pleads innocent to vehicular assault that hurt 10

CANTON (AP) -- A 16-year-old girl who police say crashed her car through the glass front of a restaurant, injuring 10 people, pleaded innocent to vehicular assault.
Stephanie Hanthorn, of Jackson Township in Stark County, faces 10 juvenile felony counts -- one for each person hospitalized in the Dec. 2 crash.
Police said Hanthorn crossed two lanes of traffic, ran over a curb and crashed her mother's Honda Accord into Bistro 77. An Ohio State Highway Patrol report said Hanthorn was driving at speeds faster than 60 mph.
Hanthorn also pleaded innocent Friday in Stark County Family Court to 10 misdemeanor negligent assault counts and one count of reckless operation of a vehicle.
Some people injured in the crash broke legs, hips and ribs. One of the victims remained in the intensive care unit at a local hospital for nearly a month.
Hanthorn's attorney, Jeffrey Haupt, said his client has not driven since the crash and is speaking with a counselor.
"This was clearly an accident. We just want the victims to know her main focus, main concern is that these people recover and to the best of their ability, forgive her," Haupt said.
Judge Jim James set a hearing for Feb. 17.
Each vehicular assault charge carries a possible six-month sentence in the Ohio Department of Youth Services, although prosecutors have said a jail sentence in a case like this is not common.
