Program promotes equine environmentalism

CANFIELD -- An equine environmental and liability awareness program will be 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday at McMahon Hall at the Mill Creek Metroparks Farm.
The program is sponsored by the Mahoning Soil and Water Conservation District and the Natural Resource Conservation Service.
It is designed for managers, operators or owners interested in developing and implementing environmental, conservation and natural resources practices related to horses, ponies, llamas and alpacas.
Officials said, on average, one horse generates eight tons of manure per year. Under Ohio law, horses, ponies, llamas and alpacas are defined as livestock, and environmental, conservation and natural resources issues must be a priority.
The cost of the program is $15 and includes program materials, lunch and refreshments. For more information or to register, call the Mahoning SWCD at (330) 740-7995.
