Phantoms rout Traverse City, 8-2

Mahoning Valley had eight different players score in the game.
TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. -- The Mahoning Valley Phantoms ice hockey team received goals from eight different players in Friday's 8-2 victory over the Traverse City North Stars.
Phantoms goalkeeper Ryan Zapolski made 20 saves before a near-sellput crowd for the North American Hockey League game.
The Phantoms (23-13-3) took the lead early in the first period. Owen Meyer fed Mike Maltese in the slot and he beat North Stars goalie Jeremy Kaleniecki for a 1-0 lead. It was Maltese's 14th goal of the season.
Tied early
The North Stars, as they've done so often against the Phantoms, bounced back just a minute and 48 seconds later. Sal Ragusa fed Brett Englebright on the near post in the slot. Engelbright snapped a quick shot past Zapolski for a 1-1 tie.
The Phantoms regained the lead on the power play. Chris Fairbanks fought off a defenseman in the slot and wrapped a wrister that was stopped by Kaleniecki, but not secured.
Milan Drevenak poked the rebound in front of the left post that deflected off the goaltender's right arm and into the net. It was Drevenak's 10th tally of the season.
Drew Satterley whistled a backhand pass to Marc Menzione, who glided in from the left side of the slot. Menzione's backhand trickled between the legs of Kaleniecki for his 20th goal.
Penalties hurt
Traverse City (12-22-5) played well for the first half of the second period. But they succumbed to the penalty bug, falling shorthanded three times over the second half of the period.
Ahead 3-1, Fairbanks shot the puck to Kaleniecki's right that deflected off his skate and just trickled past the goal line.
The Phantoms didn't let up in the final period. Matt Quigley snapped a bullet in the upper right corner of the goal, just 1:54 in on the Phantoms' first shot of the period. Kaleniecki was replaced by Ryan Donovan.
Nearly five minutes later, Drevenak assisted Jake Roadhouse on a beautiful give-and-go. Like Quigley, it was Roadhouse's fifth on the campaign.
Also scoring
Matt Atsoff and Craig Dulman also scored for the Phantoms, who outshot Traverse City 36-22.
Drevenak was named the game's number-one star with a goal and two assists. Fairbanks, Dulman and Maltese each had a goal and an assist while Meyer added two assists. Zapolski earned his 16th win on the season.
Mahoning valley and Traverse City play tonight at 7:30 p.m.
