Ex-policeman sentenced for drug crime

DAYTON (AP) -- A former city policeman was sentenced Friday to five years in prison for serving as a lookout while another man broke into a home to steal drugs.
Richard Elworth, 33, of Dayton pleaded guilty Oct. 19 to having a firearm while committing a drug crime. U.S. District Court Judge Thomas Rose sentenced Elworth.
Prosecutors said Elworth and former Germantown policeman James Gregory were arrested July 25 after Gregory broke into the home of a suspected drug dealer in Dayton to take drugs and cash. Elworth, while on duty as a Dayton policeman, served as a lookout while parked in his cruiser in front of the house, prosecutors said.
Elworth had faced up to life in prison.
