WARREN -- Nominations are being sought from individuals interested in applying for appointment to a five-year term on the Trumbull County Board of Health.
Applicants should complete a petition for appointment, which can be obtained at the health board office. To be a candidate, one must be a U.S. citizen and registered to vote in the health district. Residents of Warren, Niles and Girard are ineligible.
Applicants should also submit a letter of interest and r & eacute;sum & eacute; to the District Advisory Council in care of Johnna Ben at the Trumbull County Health Department, 176 Chestnut Ave. N.E., Warren 44483 by 4 p.m. Feb. 17.
Manager robbed
AUSTINTOWN -- The manager of a fast-food restaurant was robbed of the business's deposit while at a Mahoning Avenue bank. The 47-year-old manager of McDonald's, Mahoning Avenue, told police that she went to National City Bank's night deposit box shortly before 7 a.m. Friday. As she got out of her car, a man pushed her, grabbed the deposit bags contained an undisclosed amount of money and fled.
The victim, who wasn't injured, told police that the man was wearing a hooded sweat shirt that had been turned backward with holes cut for his eyes.
She didn't see a weapon.
Police arrived and took photographs of shoeprints found in the snow.
Bridge to be replaced
GREENVILLE, Pa. -- Quaker Road Bridge is set to be replaced this spring. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation hired Delta Constructors Inc. of Hermitage to replace the structure. Work is expected to begin in mid-March or early April. The project will be a prestressed concrete I-beam bridge on a new alignment just east of the current bridge. New approach roadways will eliminate three current curves. The current bridge will be kept open and traffic will be maintained during the project except for a short period to tie in the new roadway. It should be completed by October. The construction cost is $1.8 million.
Appointments made
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- City council has reappointed Ken Aven to the New Castle Library Board. His term expires Dec. 31, 2008. Council also appointed Marvin Lebby to the New Castle Hospital Authority through Jan. 5, 2007. He replaces Arthur Zarone, who resigned. Council named Angelo Spanos to serve on the New Castle Zoning Hearing Board of Appeals through Dec. 31, 2010. He replaces Paul Oravetz, whose term expired Dec. 31, 2005.
Judges hire Regula
YOUNGSTOWN -- Judges of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court have hired Bob Regula as the new court administrator, effective Monday. Regula worked in the court administrator's office several years ago before moving to the county treasurer's office, said Judge James C. Evans, who is administrative judge. The court administrator oversees scheduling of trials and hearings for the five common pleas judges, as well as financial and operational matters. Regula was hired after Robert W. Rupeka resigned to become vice president of the local office of The Economic and Community Development Institute.
Police seek suspect
SHARPSVILLE, Pa. -- Pennsylvania State Police are asking the public to help locate Patrick Martin Whalen, 38, whose last known address was in Sharpsville. Whalen has been charged with involuntary sexual intercourse, aggravated indecent assault, indecent assault, sexual abuse of children, statutory sexual assault and corruption of minors. Police said the charges stem from August 2005 and involve four juveniles. Anyone knowing his whereabouts is asked to call police at (724) 662-6162.
Monopoly tourney set
NILES -- The annual Monopoly Game Tournament to benefit Camp Fire USA Northeast Ohio will begin at 10:30 a.m. Feb. 18 at the Eastwood Mall. Entry fee is $10 if paid before Feb. 11 and $20 after that. Prizes include a $50 mall certificate, one-night stay at the Mariott in Boardman, restaurant gift certificate and deluxe Monopoly game. There will also be a Chinese raffle of gift baskets.
