This and that from the world of Valley politics.
NOT AN ENDORSEMENT: State Rep. Kenneth A. Carano, an Austintown Democrat, recently received two honors for his support of issues that help disabled people and children's health. What was interesting about the press release from his office about the honors was the contact name on it -- Deanna Gerberry, daughter of Mahoning County Recorder Ron Gerberry of Austintown, a state Senate candidate and longtime friend of Carano.
Gerberry's daughter is a former student of Carano at Austintown Fitch High School teacher and serves as his legislative aide, a job that pays about $27,000 annually. Carano said the hiring of Gerberry's daughter, done months ago, doesn't mean he's endorsing her father for the state Senate seat.
State Rep. John Boccieri of New Middletown, D-61st, also a friend of Carano, is also running in the May Democratic primary for that job. Carano said he won't endorse either candidate.
Are you good? The postcard reads: "We're looking for good men and women." The Mahoning County Republican Organization is mailing the postcards to find precinct committee candidates. Of the 312 GOP precinct positions in the county, more than 100 are vacant.
Those interested should call the party's headquarters at (330) 629-7006 and leave their name, mailing and e-mail addresses, and telephone number.
