Photographer is arraigned in teen's death

MATHEWS, Va. (AP) -- An amateur photographer was arraigned Wednesday on a charge alleging he killed a 17-year-old college student whose body was found in a shallow ravine miles from campus.
Benjamin Fawley, 38, entered no plea to a charge of first-degree murder in the death of Taylor Behl. The judge set a May 30 trial date.
The indictment handed up last week accuses Fawley of killing Behl "in the commission of, or attempt to commit, rape, forcible sodomy or abduction."
Behl, a college freshman, was found dead Oct. 5, one month after she was reported missing from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. Her remains were discovered about 70 miles east of the campus on a remote farm.
The medical examiner's office has not determined a cause of death.
Court-appointed defense attorney William Johnson said outside court that he had not decided whether to seek to have the trial moved, but he noted the extensive press coverage and said "that position could change."
In October, a gag order was issued in the case after information was leaked to the press -- including a report that Fawley had told police he killed Behl accidentally during a sexual encounter.
Fawley is also facing unrelated child pornography and firearms charges and is being held without bond.
