NHL ROUNDUP Wednesday's other games

Stars 4, Blues 3, SO
DALLAS -- Sergei Zubov and Jussi Jokinen scored in the shootout and Dallas remained perfect in the NHL's new tiebreaker this season. Dallas goaltender Marty Turco got a break when Mike Sillinger hit the crossbar on St. Louis' first try, then Zubov beat Curtis Sanford on his first-round shot. Turco stopped Dennis Wideman with a sprawling second-round save. Jokinen converted his sixth shootout attempt in as many tries this season, beating Sanford, who had 38 saves, with a wrist shot to end it. Jokinen, Zubov and Turco were mobbed by teammates after the Stars won their sixth shootout of the season. Kevin Dallman put the Blues in front 3-2 on a power-play goal with 6:56 left in regulation, beating Turco on a one-timer from the left circle. But Jokinen set up Dallas defenseman Philippe Boucher's goal with 46.4 seconds to play to send the game into overtime. St. Louis failed to score on a power-play opportunity in overtime, and the game went to the shootout, where the Blues are now 1-5. Zubov put the Stars in front 2-1 on a power-play goal with 9.9 seconds left in the second period, beating Sanford on a 40-foot blast. Brenden Morrow, who also had a goal, provided a screen for Zubov. Dallas, which had converted only two of its previous 30 power-play chances, capitalized with Sillinger in the penalty box for hooking. Zubov's eighth goal gave him 40 points for the 10th straight season, the longest active streak among NHL defensemen. But Sillinger atoned for the penalty with his 20th goal 43 seconds into the third period to pull the Blues even at 2. The Blues are 1-0-3 in their last four games, extending their season-long streak of games with at least one point. St. Louis is still last in the league with 30 points. Dallas dominated the first period, building a 21-3 shots advantage, but the Stars needed Morrow's rebound goal at 17:25 to tie it at 1. Otherwise, Sanford kept Dallas scoreless, denying Morrow on two power-play chances from close range in the final minute of the period to keep the game deadlocked. St. Louis got the first goal on its first shot when Wideman beat Turco from the slot on a power play at 3:27 of the first period.
Hurricanes 4, Panthers 3, SO
SUNRISE, Fla. -- Erik Cole and Ray Whitney scored in a shootout to lift the streaking Hurricanes to the win. Carolina forward Rod Brind'Amour had sent the game to overtime with his second power-play goal with 1:04 left in the third period. Cullen also scored for Carolina, which is 11-1 in its last 12 games. The Hurricanes won the shootout 2-1, clinching the victory when goalie Martin Gerber stopped Martin Gelinas. Jozef Stumpel, Mike Van Ryn and Horton scored in regulation for Florida.
Canadiens 5, Flyers 3
PHILADELPHIA -- Jan Bulis scored a career-best four goals and the Montreal Canadiens snapped a seven-game road losing streak. Steve Begin also scored for Montreal, which had lost 16 of its last 17 on the road and hadn't won away from home since beating Tampa Bay on Dec. 28. Simon Gagne, Freddy Meyer and R.J. Umberger scored for Atlantic Division-leading Philadelphia, which has lost four of its last five games at home. It could be a costly game for the Flyers, who lost star center Peter Forsberg and forward Branko Radivojevic to injuries. Forsberg left with a left groin strain in the second period and will be evaluated on Thursday. Radivojevic has a left ankle injury that could keep him out a while.
