INDIANAPOLIS -- Youngstown State freshman Darcelle Formby of Cleveland was named Horizon League women's track and field athlete of the week.
Formby earned two wins at Robert Morris last weekend. She won the long jump in her first time competing in the event at the collegiate level with a mark of 5.51 meters. That mark moved her into fifth on YSU's all-time list and ranks her first in the Horizon League. She added a first-place time of 26.40 seconds in the 200-meter dash.

To be named to the Honor Roll, a student-athlete must participate in a league sport, have completed three semesters and have a cumulative grade-point average above 3.25 through Dec. 31.
Game of Hope
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Phi Kappa Tau fraternity defeated Phi Kappa Tau, 45-34, in The Game of Hope which benefited Paul Newman's "Hole in the Wall Gang" and The Rich Center for Autism. Tony Spano estimated close to $5,000 was raised.

Girard girl selected to sing national anthem
GIRARD -- Gina Martini from Girard Intermediate School will perform the National Anthem Sunday at Quicken Loans Arena before the Cleveland Cavaliers' game against the Phoenix Suns.
This is Gina's second appearance at a Cavs game.
PAC swimming
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- A pair of Westminster standouts were named swimmers of the week by the Presidents' Athletic Conference. Freshman Zac Gebhardt was named for the men after winning the 500 freestyle (4:55.73) and 1000 freestyle (10:10.92) against Grove City. Junior Britt Thomas was named for the women; she won the 500 freestyle (5:27.57) and 1000 freestyle (11:01.70).
Bowling
HUBBARD -- The fourth 9-pin no-tap scotch doubles benefit tournament sponsored by the Youngstown Women's Bowling Association will be Feb. 3-5 at Bell-Wick Bowl. There will be four categories: two-woman, two-man, mixed and adult/junior. Entry fee of $20 per doubles and form should be mailed to the YWBA at 2703 Mahoning Ave., Youngstown 44509. Pre-registration should be mailed by Jan. 31. All proceeds will benefit the Komen Foundation, Hospice of the Valley and the Jessica Moorhead Foundation.
Minto to fight
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. -- Brian "The Beast" Minto of Butler, Pa., is on the Tropicana Resort and Casino card Friday night. Minto (23-1, 14 knockouts) will be in a heavyweight eight-rounder with Andy Sample (33-12-2, 22 KOs) from Topeka, Kan. The card has four title bouts, the biggest being a 12-rounder for the WBA cruiserweight championship between Virgil Hill and Valerie Brudov.
Youngstown hockeyteam ties for fourth
LAKE PLACID, N.Y. -- The Old and in the Way hockey team of Youngstown posted a 2-2 record to tie for fourth place in the Torino Division of the CanAm Pond Hockey Tournament held recently.
The international tournament which attracted 24 teams is held to commemorate the "Miracle on Ice" USA Hockey victory in the 1980 Olympics at Lake Placid.
The Youngstown team was led in scoring by Ken Timmings, who also was named the squad's most valuable performer, while rookie Jim Rapone keyed the defense.
Other team members were Jim Boniface, Sam Artle, Tom Boniface (captain) and Sandy Naples (injured reserve).
