WARREN Packard show will feature Lombardo's Canadians

The Lombardo Orchestra has performed for more than eight decades.
WARREN -- Guy Lombardo's Royal Canadians with Al Pierson will present Warren Civic Music Association's fourth concert of the season at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 6 in Packard Music Hall.
Besides their signature song, "Auld Lang Syne," the most important ingredient of the Guy Lombardo Orchestra was its consistency in playing tunes like "Seems Like Old Times," "Boo Hoo," "Coquette," " Sweethearts on Parade" and "Ain't She Sweet," all written by Carmen Lombardo.
A limited number of adult tickets for this concert will be available for $21.50, and student tickets are $6.50. To order tickets, call the box office at (330) 841-2931.
Around a long time
Founded in 1919, the Lombardo Orchestra is the longest-running act in show business history.
The orchestra's New Year's Eve Party was the longest-running annual special program in radio history. It has performed for more than 1 billion viewers, via television, since it first telecast their New Year's Eve Party in 1954.
The Lombardo orchestra's closing song, originally an obscure Scottish ballad called "Auld Lang Syne," has become the symbol universally for all New Year's Eve festivities.
Took the helm
On Feb. 12, 1989, Al Pierson took up the baton of the famed Royal Canadians with the blessings, and a long-term contract, from the Lombardo family.
Pierson was ready for the challenge. He shows a dedication to the distinctive and recognizable style and grand tradition that made the Lombardo orchestra one of the most listened to, talked about and imitated big bands of all time.
Pierson is beginning his 17th consecutive year as the leader of Guy Lombardo's Royal Canadians, and has taken the group to 32 foreign countries.
Broadcast weekly on PBS, Pierson is known by his fans and associates as Mr. Personality and is in a class with Liberace and Victor Borge.
There are two more concerts in this year's Warren Civic Music Association series.
On March 16, the Broadway Star Spangled Celebration brings dance and musical numbers from Broadway's greatest shows to Warren.
John Davidson will conclude the series April 17. Ticket holders should note the date change for this concert.
