HOWLAND -- The board of education intends to place about a 1-mill renewal levy on the May 2 primary election ballot.
The panel agreed Monday to ask the county auditor to determine the actual millage that will be required to generate $585,000, based on the current property tax valuation.
The five-year permanent improvement levy was originally adopted by voters Nov. 6, 2001.
The board will meet at noon Feb. 6 in the administrative offices to place the issue before voters.
Schools Superintendent John Rubesich said that during the 2001 campaign, the literature contained a list of all the district buildings and improvements that will be made to them if the levy was approved.
Rubesich said the literature for the May issue will list projects that have been accomplished with the money.
Strategic plan
Also during the meeting, board members received their assignments to continue work on the district's long-term strategic plan.
They are: Lori Kuszmaul, financial; Warner Bacak, academics; Scott Lehman, technology; Barbara Wright, maintenance of facilities; and Andrew Bednar, community collaboration.
Rubesich said the district has been working on the plan for about 18 months.
The facilities committee will look at the possibility of a new high school and auditorium.
Also, the board agreed to advertise for bids for roof repairs on a portion of the middle school. The board will advertise later for repairs needed on the roof above the administration section of the middle school.
