YOUNGSTOWN -- A 36-year-old Oxford Street man told police he was shot in the buttocks around 12:01 a.m. Monday as he walked northbound on Albert Street. The victim said he was shot after refusing to give money to a man who jumped out of a late-model yellow or orange van. The victim ran until an unknown person picked him up and took him to St. Elizabeth Health Center, where he was treated, reports show.
Charges pending in death
MESOPOTAMIA -- Charges are pending against a 17-year-old motorist whose friend died when the car he was driving struck a tree Sunday night, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol. Robert D. Futty, 18, of Windsor, was pronounced dead at Cleveland MetroHealth System. The driver, Ryan R. Robinson, 17, of North Bloomfield, was driving a car southbound on state Route 534, just north of state Route 87, at 10:30 p.m. when he failed to negotiate a curve. The car went off the right side of the road and struck a tree. Robinson was treat at Geauga Community Hospital, the patrol said.
Jewelry store robbed
HERMITAGE, Pa. -- Watches and silver jewelry were taken in a Sunday night burglary at L & amp;C Jewelers on East State Street. Hermitage police said they were alerted by an automatic alarm at 10:40 p.m. Police said they found the front-door glass broken as well as several glass display cases. Watches and necklaces valued at $1,300 were missing.
Reward offered in theft
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Heritage Enterprises is offering a cash reward for information leading to the conviction of the person who took $13,000 worth of inventory. Pennsylvania State Police said someone backed up a pickup truck in the company's parts yard and loaded about 20 high-lift equipment pins, 10 stainless steel conveyor shafts and an undetermined amount of other items into a truck sometime from 7 p.m. Friday to 8 a.m. Saturday. The heavy machinery parts yard is on both sides of Pa. Route 18 in New Beaver. Anyone with information should contact the state police at (724) 598-2211.
Patients moved
ALLIANCE -- Alliance Community Hospital safely moved all its patients Sunday from its former home on East Rice Street to its nearby new facility on State Street. A total of 43 patients were moved within a three-hour period, starting at 8 a.m., according to hospital officials. & quot;We completed the move at 10:39 a.m., beating our original goal time of 10:44 a.m., & quot; said Lin Sever, a hospital spokesperson. The emergency department and its patients were the first to move. The old emergency room closed at 6 a.m., the same time the new one opened. Patients were moved by teams from the hospital's physical therapy group. They were placed onto stretchers or into wheelchairs and then taken by ambulance to the new facility.
Bureau to receive funds
WARREN -- Trumbull County commissioners were to present a check for $90,000 to the new Trumbull County Tourism Bureau this morning. The money comes from the county's tax on lodging.
Man gets three years
LISBON -- Columbiana County Common Pleas Court Judge C. Ashley Pike on sentenced a man Monday to three years in prison for engaging in sex acts with a teenager. Andrew Possage, 33, of Anderson Boulevard, East Liverpool, told the judge, "It will never happen again." Possage had pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual battery involving a 15-year-old girl he knew. The acts occurred in December 2004 in Liverpool Township. The judge ordered the two prison terms to run at the same time. Possage was also designated a sexually oriented offender who will have to register his residence with the county sheriff for 10 years after his release.
