AUCTIONS
XCrisis Shelter of Lawrence County, 1218 W. State St., New Castle, Pa., is selling tickets for its 18th annual auction to be held at 6 p.m. Feb. 25 at the Scottish Rite Cathedral in New Castle. The event will feature dinner, a silent auction, a quilt and a 50-50 raffle, and live auctions. Donations are welcome. Tickets are limited and are $25 each. Raffle tickets are $1 each or six for $5. CLASSES
XPat Catan's, 6151 S. Ave., Boardman, will conduct free bridal craft and floral fair classes Feb. 18 and 19. Bridal and floral design sessions will be held at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 2:30 and 4 each day. On-site professionals will answer questions.
FESTIVALS
XSt. John Greek Orthodox Church, 4955 Glenwood Ave., will hold a Winterfest from noon to 9 p.m. on Jan. 28 and 29. Featured will be Greek cuisine including oven-roasted leg of lamb with all the trimmings, roast chicken dinners, gyros, spankopita, dolmathes and Greek salad. Also available will be Greek pastries including koulourakis, baklava, karithopita and loukoumathes. There will be Greek music, dancing by Greek dancers and a Greek Taverna.
FUND-RAISERS
XAustintown Middle School and Frank Ohl Middle School bands will hold a "Twilight in Austintown" fund-raiser dinner and dance from 6 to 11 p.m. Saturday at Mr. Anthony's in Boardman. Proceeds will be used to repair or replace musical instruments at the schools. Tickets are $35, and corporate tables for eight are $300. For tickets call Lisa Marshall, (330) 792-7029.
SPECIAL EVENTS
XHigh Pointe Assembly of God, 5716 Struthers Road, Poland, will hold a super bowl extravaganza Feb. 5 beginning with a nonalcoholic tailgate party at 5 p.m. and the kickoff at 6:25 on a theater-sized screen. The event is free and open to the public. There will be food, soft drinks, and over $4,000 in prizes such as gift cards to area restaurants, weekend packages at a local hotel, limousine service and beauty treatments for women. Prizes will also be available for children. Tickets can be obtained by calling (330) 506-1499. A limited number of tickets will be available at the door. Free child care will be available for those 3 years old and younger.
XImmaculate Heart of Mary Parish Center, 4500 Norquest Blvd., Austintown, will hold a Valentine Dance from 7 to 11 p.m. Feb. 11. Doors open at 7 p.m. and music will be provided by a disc jockey. The cost is $15 and includes a buffet from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Patrons may provide their own beverages (no coolers); plastic cups and ice for drinks will be provided.
XLawrence County Chamber of Commerce will present it's 30th annual Bridal Fair and Women's Expo Sunday at the Scottish Rite Cathedral in New Castle, Pa. More than 60 exhibitors will display products and services. There will be continuous fashion shows by bridal shops and dress stores from noon to 6 p.m. There will be a drawing at 5:30 p.m. for a $1,000 shopping spree. Vendors are being accepted. TRIPS
XNiles Chapter of the American Sewing Guild is sponsoring a bus trip to the Cleveland Sewing Expo at the I-X Center March 17. Pickups will be at 6:30 a.m. at Niles Super K and at 6:45 a.m. at Champion Big Lots, arriving at the Expo at 9 a.m. The return trip is scheduled for 6 p.m. The bus fee is $23 for members and $26 for nonmembers. Those participating are responsible for their own entrance and class fees and dinner. Reservations are due by March 5.
