Hindu Temple being expanded

LIBERTY -- An improvement and expansion project estimated at $500,000 is under way at the Hindu Temple, 6464 Sodom Hutchings Road, said Ramachandra Bhattar, the priest at the temple.
The project involves construction of a new septic system, expansion of the structure and placement of a dome.
The temple, which has 2,450 square feet in the basement and on the first floor, will be expanded by 1,000 square feet per floor. The worship area will be expanded and the building and site will be made handicap accessible including a limited-use elevator.
There also will be cosmetic improvements in the building along with landscaping. The placement of a 22-foot-tall dome on the temple will complete the project.
This will be the first expansion and renovation at the temple, which has been in Liberty Township for about 20 years.
The temple, a regional facility, attracts about 250 families from Mahoning and Trumbull counties and Pennsylvania. The expansion, Bhattar said, is to accommodate a growing membership.
