Proposed school budget includes no tax rise

NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- The New Castle School District is looking at a proposed $35.9 million budget for 2006-07, with no tax increase.
The school board, at a special meeting this week, introduced the proposed spending plan, which reflects a 4.9 percent increase over the 2005-06 budget.
The board intends to vote on whether to place the proposed budget on public display at a special meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday. Business Manager Joseph Ambrosini said the district must adopt a preliminary spending plan by Feb. 15.
Ambrosini said that he anticipates making several revisions to the budget he introduced to the school board this week, but that he does not think there will be a need for a tax increase. The district must adopt its final budget by June 30.
