GIRARD -- Unity Church Centre, 1226 Naylor Lloyd Road, will host a showing of "The Indigo Children" at 1, 4 and 7 p.m. Jan. 29.
Indigo children are seen in the movie creating paintings, writing songs and poetry. The young people are characterized as being strong-willed, creative, independent, restless, with a strong desire to help people and having an affinity with animals. Life Ring event
BEAVER FALLS, Pa. -- Geneva College and Pennsylvanians for Human Life are encouraging churches to ring their steeple bells Sunday for the 33rd anniversary of Roe vs. Wade decision on abortion. Churches participating in Life Ring will begin a funeral tolling sequence at noon and toll their bells once every 20 seconds for 11 minutes. The funeral bell serves as a memorial for lives lost.
Deacons' union dinner
YOUNGSTOWN -- The 28th annual Valentine dinner of the Mahoning-Shenango Valley Baptist Deacons' Union is planned at 3 p.m. Feb. 12 at The Georgetown, 5933 South Ave. The event also will mark the group's 55th anniversary of service to the community. Service for Elder Newby
FARRELL, Pa. -- An appreciation service for Elder Flora L. Newby, minister of music at New and Living Way, Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ, 927 Lee Ave., is planned at 5 p.m. Jan. 29. "Have You Visited These Rooms" will be the service theme at 5 p.m. Sunday.
Parish council election
BOARDMAN -- Phillip Passas was re-elected parish council president of St. John the Forerunner Greek Orthodox Church, 4955 Glenwood Ave. This will be his sixth term in that post; he has served since 2003. Also elected during a council reorganizational meeting Jan. 10 were Greg Giannios, vice president; George Denney, recording secretary; Gus Markovis, treasurer; and Dan Wallace, financial chairman. The Rev. Thomas Constantine was meeting chairman.
Music ministry
YOUNGSTOWN -- Don LaPlaca, who is affiliated with crusade evangelism under Impact International, will present worship and music at the 8 and 10:45 a.m. Jan. 29 services at First United Methodist Church of West Austintown, 6749 Mahoning Ave. Fellowship will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. LaPlaca and his family have lived in Honduras for seven years and Costa Rica for two years. He operates a recording studio for Christian musicians in South America. LaPlaca also is on the radio program, Impacto.
Guest speaker
CANFIELD -- Tammy Hammar, a graduate of Rhema Bible Training Center in Tulsa, Okla., will be guest speaker during testimony night at 7 on Monday at Lifecare Ministry Center, Lucille Orr Ministries Inc., 5357 Raccoon Road. The center holds healing prayer clinics Tuesdays, classes on coping with life's struggles at 7 p.m. Thursdays for adults, youth and children and worship at 7 p.m. Fridays.
