Hearing set for RMI's appeal for tax refund

MINERAL RIDGE -- Treasurer Angela Lewis told the Weathersfield Board of Education she has contacted the Ohio Board of Tax Appeals and a hearing will be in March on RMI Titanium's appeal for a refund of $434,000 for taxes it paid the school district in 2000 and 2001.
She said a decision will be given in writing after the hearing and it may take months before that decision is announced. A ruling in RMI's favor would mean the school district would have to reimburse the company, she said.
The board also accepted donations totaling $9,500 at its Wednesday meeting.
The Mineral Ridge Athletic Association donated $7,500 from the Joe Lane Sports Complex, $1,000 from the Seaborn Home and School Association, and $1,000 from the Mineral Ridge Middle School Home and School Association toward the purchase of a digital baby grand piano for the music department.
