Akron scores 12th win, beats CMU in overtime

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- Romeo Travis scored 22 points to lead Akron to a 76-69 overtime victory over Central Michigan on Wednesday.
The Zips (12-3, 5-0 Mid-American Conference) built a 21-point lead with 14:46 left in the contest.
The Chippewas had runs of 10-0, 10-1 and 9-1 on their way to tie the game at 64 as Giordan Watson hit a leaner in the lane with 17 seconds left. Akron was unable to get a shot off at the buzzer and the game went into the extra period.
The Chippewas (2-12, 0-6), who are shooting just 39 percent from the field this season, shot 48.3 percent in the second half.
In overtime, the Chippewas never got the lead as the Zips held them to just two field goals.
Travis had nine rebounds and four blocks while Nick Dials scored 16, Dru Joyce scored 11 and Cedrick Middleton added 10 for Akron.
Freshman Aaron Richie led the Chippewas with 16 points, all in the second half. Sefton Barrett added 15 points, nine rebounds and three blocks. Eddie Spencer scored 14 points and had eight rebounds.
Bowling Green 79, E. Michigan 72
YPSILANTI, Mich. -- Martin Samarco scored 23 of his career-high 35 points in the second half to rally Bowling Green.
Steven Wright added 17 points for the Falcons (7-8, 3-2), who have won two straight.
John Bowler scored 18 and Gino Smith had 16 points for the Eagles (3-10, 0-5). Eastern Michigan has lost six straight and is off to its worst conference start since starting the 2000-01 season with 10 consecutive losses.
Bowling Green trailed 33-32 at halftime but used a 12-0 run early in the second half to open a 54-46 lead. Samarco sparked the rally with two 3-pointers and a layup.
The Eagles pulled within 75-72 when Bowler split a pair of free throws with 30.9 seconds left. But Wright and Samarco each hit two free throws in the final 19 seconds to seal the win.
The teams combined for 37 turnovers, including a season-high 23 by Eastern Michigan.
Miami (Ohio) 58, Toledo 49
OXFORD -- Nathan Peavy scored 19 points and grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds to lead Miami (Ohio).
The score was tied at 25 at halftime. But Peavy pulled Miami (9-5, 6-0) to a 36-27 lead, scoring 6 points during an 11-2 run in the first 5:02 of the second half.
Justin Ingram and Jerrah Young both had 10 points for Toledo (8-6, 1-5).
William Hatcher had 18 points for Miami, and Tim Pollitz added 11. Peavy recorded his sixth double-double.
Miami shot 46 percent in its 13th consecutive home win but held Toledo to 37 percent shooting.
Temple 53, Dayton 51
DAYTON -- Mardy Collins had 16 points and scored on a last-second layup to lift Temple.
Temple (9-6, 3-2 Atlantic 10) went into the second half with a 24-21 lead and didn't give the Flyers another lead. Dayton (8-10, 0-4) tied it at 46 with 1:50 left, and Temple answered with a 3-pointer from Antywane Robinson, who had 12 points.
Brian Roberts, who had 14 points for the Flyers, tied it again at 51 with a 22-foot 3-pointer with 13 seconds remaining.
Collins then scored under double coverage with 0.9 left.
Dustin Salisbery had 16 points for Temple. Monty Scott had 16 points for Dayton, and Norman Plummer added 10.
Temple scored 15 points off of Dayton turnovers.
