POLAND VILLAGE | COUNCIL MEETING

Poland Village Council took these actions at its meeting Tuesday:
Approved a water service agreement with Aqua Ohio Inc., for Feb. 1 to Dec. 31, which would increase residents' water bills by around $1.45 per month. The monthly water bill for a family of four in 2005 was about $29, council said. Aqua Ohio's plan is for a three-year contract with a 4.6 percent increase in water rates in each of the three years, but council wants Aqua Ohio to assist in plans to alleviate flooding in the village and wants the option to evaluate the company's service after the first year of the contract.Voted 5-1 to present the ordinance as an emergency and approved it by the same margin, with Councilman Bob Limmer opposed on both votes. Limmer does not agree with Aqua Ohio's request of a 4.6 percent rate increase because he believes the increase should be based on the consumer price index, which would be a 3.1 percent increase.Approved the first reading of an ordinance that would allow the use of sandwich signs in the village.
