Place nears 1,000th

The Badger graduate is a scoring machine for The Bison.
BETHANY, W.Va. -- With 17 points in Monday's game at Westminster College, Bethany College senior Jenny Place of Farmdale, a graduate of Badger High, now stands 18 points away from becoming the 14th player to reach 1,000 career points.
The 5-8 guard/forward is on pace to reach the plateau in Bethany's game Saturday at home against Grove City College.
Place is averaging 19.1 points to rank third in the Presidents' Athletic Conference.
When she does reach the mark, it will be the fourth consecutive season the Bethany program has seen a player reach the milestone. The others are Kelly Richardson (2003), Katie Hardie of Youngstown (2004) and Nikki Babik (2005).
The Bison captain has scored in double figures in 16 consecutive games after being held to four in a season-opening loss to 12th-ranked Baldwin-Wallace College.
Included in those totals are eight games with more than 20 points, including a career-high 35 in a loss to Alma College Dec. 2.
She has been the team's leading scorer in 14 games this year, including the last four.
The 2005 Second Team All-PAC selection also is ranked third in the PAC in steals (2.12), three-pointers made (35) and free throw percentage (77.8); seventh in rebounding (6.5); and 10th in three-point percentage (32.4).
Place has three double-doubles to her credit this year, with one of being a 22-point, 11-rebound effort in a 93-83 overtime victory over Methodist (N.C.) College on Dec. 3.
Saturday's game between the Bison (5-12, 1-3 PAC) and Grove City will be at 4 p.m. as the second part of a doubleheader with the men's team.
A physical education major with better than 3.9 grade-point average, Place is the daughter of Mike and Mary Place of Farmdale.
