Parenting workshop to feature expert



The keynote speaker has appeared on national radio and television programs.
POLAND -- A workshop on parenting skills is set for 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Poland Seminary High School, 3199 Dobbins Road.
The workshop is free and open to the public.
Registration runs from 8:30 to 9 a.m. Dr. Raymond Guarendi, the keynote speaker, will follow. Dr. Guarendi is a clinical psychologist and author of several books on parenting.
Among his books are "You're a Better Parent Than You Think," "Back to the Family" and "Discipline that Lasts a Lifetime."
On TV
Dr. Guarendi has been a regular on national radio and television programs, including "The Oprah Winfrey Show," "700 Club" and "CBS This Morning." He will cover parenting and family life from toddlers to teens and from discipline to self-confidence as a parent.
After his presentation, several breakout sessions will be offered. Those include stepparents and blended families, drug awareness, sex and abstinence, common discipline, five love languages of a teenager, bullying and harassment, financial planning for college, and sessions on organizing children.
The breakout sessions begin at 10:10 a.m. and end at noon. Participants may attend several.
The Poland Parent Expo is endorsed and sponsored by Poland Schools Foundation for Educational Excellence and several other school, church and community groups from the community.
The parents workshop is designed to assist parents and grandparents in bettering their parenting skills. Refreshments also will be served.
