Children Services Board seeking 2-mill renewal levy this year

WARREN -- Voters will see another levy on the ballot this year to fund the Trumbull County Children Services Board.
At its Tuesday meeting, the board voted to ask the county commissioners to approve putting a 2-mill, 5-year renewal on the ballot either in the May primary or in the November general election.
Robert Kubiak, the board's executive director, said his administration was undecided which election would be best for the issue, but the deadline for submitting it to the board of elections for the May primary is Feb. 16, and that deadline comes before the next CSB meeting, so it was best to submit the issue to the commissioners now.
Kubiak said board members considered putting a replacement levy and renewal levy on the ballot at the same time last November, but they decided it would be better to wait on the renewal levy request.
Replacement levy
Voters approved the board's 0.8-mill replacement levy Nov. 8. That levy was for 10 years and passed by a 55 percent margin. Replacement levies are for the same millage as before but allow for inflation. Renewals are for the same millage but do not give the board additional revenue from inflation.
The 2-mill levy was last renewed in 2000 and was first approved in 1986, Kubiak said.
Board members accepted the resignation of Deanna Bollas, who will retire Jan. 31 from her position of casework supervisor. She has held that position about 26 years in her 30-year tenure with the agency.
The agency reported that it was able to provide gifts to more than 500 children this Christmas, thanks to the donations from dozens of agencies and businesses.
