AKRON -- Freshman Olivia Arnold won three events and set the school record in the 1,000-yard freestyle as Youngstown State fell to Akron 163-122 Saturday.
Arnold swam a time of 10 minutes, 42.71 seconds in the 1,000 free to break Jordan Dunn's record of 10:43.86 that was recorded last year. Arnold also picked up wins in the 500 free (5:17.21) and the 200 IM (2:17.31).
Sophomore Brittany Senn won both sprint freestyle events with a time of 25.26 in the 50 and a 54.52 in the 100. The 200 free relay of Senn, Jessica Front, Julia Darling and Leigh Bareman picked up YSU's only other victory.
Darling was just .01 seconds behind her own school record in the 100 breast with a second-place time of 1:08.47, and she added a second-place finish in the 200 breast (2:30.52). Front placed second in the 200 free (2:01.13) and the 500 free (5:23.81) while Senn added a second-place finish in the 100 fly (1:01.95). Natasha Bray finished second in the 200 IM (2:24.21), and Kelly Reese led the diving squad with a second-place finish in the 3-meter with a score of 226.95.

Hockey
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Poland-Ursuline-Mooney (PUMA) hockey team defeated Wooster 10-0 Sunday night at The Chevrolet Centre.
For PUMA (7-12-2), Jay Young scored three goals, while Joe DiTommaso and Jim Pasquine scored two apiece. Corey Gruelle, Tyler Eucker and Landen Rust scored one each. EJ O'Neill had four assists and Eric Davignon added three.
Chaney football
YOUNGSTOWN -- Kelvan Elkins was presented with the Red Angelo Scholastic Award at the Chaney High Football Banquet at the I.T.A.M Club.
Receiving other awards were Andy Cahill, Jeff Nameth Unsung Hero; Bill Johnson, Kevin Clark memorial Scholarship; Robert McElroy and Elkins, Denny Brace Memorial Scholarship and Robert Spencer, Michael Wilson 12th Man. The event was sposored by the Chaney Gridiron Club.
Lifting
ATLANTIC CITY, NJ -- Bryan Meehan and Brian Wharry of Lowellville, both 19, set a world record at the WNPF World Championship Lifting competition.
Meehan, in the 138-148 weight class set his record with a bench press of 281 pounds.
Warry, in the 181-198 weight class set his record with a bench-press of 231 pounds. Graduates of Lowellville High, both attend Youngstown State University.
Indoor track
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Lordstown's A.J. Keeley set a school record in the long jump with a leap of 20 feet to finish second at an indoor track and field invitational at Slippery Rock University on Friday.
Keeley also finished third in the 400-meter dash (56.4) and was a member of the sixth-place 4x800 relay (9:32.7). Seth Mansell, also a member of that relay, finished fifth in the 800 (2:12.5), Ryan Pal was sixth in the high jump (5-10) and fifth in the 55 hurdles (8.5). Anthony Cononico was eighth in the 55 dash (6.9). Other members of the relay were Jeremy Ratell and Dustin Bowman.
On the girls side, freshman Kayla Ellks was sixth in the long jump (15-2) and seventh in the 55 dash (7.9). Ashley Kellar was sixth in the high jump (4-10) and joined Ashley Gibbs, Jessica Reinke and Ellks to set a school record in the 4x200 relay (2:03.3), finishing fourth. The 4x800 relay of Reinke, Hollie Bailey, Ashlee Wolfgang and Rachel Minor placed sixth (1:51.1).
Boxing
YOUNGSTOWN -- Southside Boxing Club fighters are staying active on a weekly basis with Niles middleweight Billy Lyell in action Friday.
Lyell (9-2, 2 knockouts), a 21 year old YSU student, is co-managed by his trainer Jack Loew, Tank DiCioccio and Pat Nelson. Lyell is in an eight-round main event of a seven-bout card promoted by Baltimore Boxing at the Pikesville National Guard Armory. His opponent will be Tony Cygan, a 28-year old who resides in Middleriver, Md.
Cygan is 9-0 since turning pro in May 2004 with six of his wins by knockout.
"This guy will be a tough test for Billy, but he has been in the gym putting in good preparation time and is ready for this fight," said Loew.
"I am very excited to be fighting a good fighter with the theory being if you don't fight good fighters how can you get better?" said Lyell.

B.G. beats Toledo
BOWLING GREEN -- Mawel Soler's 17 points, nine rebounds and five steals led Bowling Green to a 59-52 win Sunday over Toledo.
The Falcons (6-8, 2-2 Mid-American Conference) also got 11 points, five assists and five steals from Steven Wright in 32 minutes off the bench. Bowling Green guard Martin Samarco managed 12 points despite shooting 2-of-10 from 3-point range and just 3-of-21 (14 percent) overall.
Justin Ingram shot 1-of-9 from behind the arc but still scored 15 points to lead the Rockets (8-5, 1-4). Kashif Payne's 10 points made him the only other Toledo player in double figures.
Reds sign two
CINCINNATI -- The Cincinnati Reds agreed to one-year contracts with outfielder Wily Mo Pena and catcher Javier Valentin on Sunday, avoiding arbitration with both players.
Pena got a $1.25 million deal, while Valentin's contract is for $1.15 million.
