Audiences are getting cheated out of a good cry in the Kevin Reynolds-directed movie about literature's original doomed romance. Those who are suckers for any decent movie set in the Dark or Middle Ages will enjoy the beautiful sense of the time and place, a world of leather and wood and flax, of primal passions and manly combat. The Irish seascapes are breathtaking, and Reynolds does well by a Viking-style funeral or two. D8
