Group seeks right to vote on water-plant sale

CAMPBELL -- Flora Hodge said she understands if most residents are in favor of selling the city's water treatment plant to Aqua Ohio. She justs wants people to be able to vote on the matter.
"Our boys are dying in Iraq to give [Iraqis] the right to vote," said Hodge, a member of the Let Us Vote committee, formed to call attention to the issue. "Why can't we have the right to vote" on the sale of the facility?
Hodge, Juanita Rich and Denise Sarigianopoulos, all members of the committee, attended Wednesday's city council meeting. Council adopted a resolution allowing Aqua Ohio to pay the city $3 million up front, which would be nearly equally divided between the city's capital improvement fund and the general fund for regular expenditures.
Mayor Jack Dill says the city will receive a total of $11 million over 10 years for the plant.
Let Us Vote members submitted letters Tuesday to State Auditor Betty Montgomery and Attorney General James Petro asking them to conduct an investigation and analysis of the sale.
