Cincy police say subject shot officer

CINCINNATI (AP) -- A passenger in a car pulled over for a traffic stop early Wednesday shot and wounded a police officer and was hit by return fire, the police chief said.
A bullet went through the bill of officer Christine Holtman's cap, shattered her glasses and grazed her right cheek, leaving a 21/2-inch gash, Chief Thomas Streicher said.
It was the third shooting of a Cincinnati police officer in six weeks. None of the injuries has been life-threatening.
Holtman was in surgery Wednesday morning to have a piece of shrapnel removed from her eye, Streicher said. The man accused in the shooting, Dante Persons, 18, was expected to be in surgery four to six hours with a shattered bone in his right leg, he said.
