DeJoe playing hockey in Belgium
CANFIELD -- Paul DeJoe, who once played high school ice hockey for Canfield High, is playing professional hockey for Olympia Heist in the Belgian Elite League, the top league in Belgium.
The Heist compete against the top teams in Holland and West Germany.
DeJoe also is coaching the 13-14 and 15-16-year-old teams in the youth division of Olympia Heist.
Played at Canfield in 1998
DeJoe played for Canfield in 1998 before transferring to Lakewood St. Edward. He received a scholarship at Neumann College in Philadelphia, playing in the ECAC West.
DeJoe was a three-year captain at Neumann and was twice named to the ECAC All-Academic Team. He played on the Gold Medal (1999) and Silver Medal (2000) Keystone State Games Collegiate Hockey All Star Teams, and was the top scorer in 1999. He has NCAA letters in ice hockey, track and baseball.
DeJoe was 4 when he began skating the West Side Rink at Rocky Ridge and was one of the first children to play for Youngstown Youth Hockey (now the Youngstown Phantoms organization).
While playing for Youngstown Youth Hockey, DeJoe was a member of the undefeated PeeWee Championship Team (10 and 11) and the Midget Championship Team (16 and 17) in the Cleveland Suburban Hockey League (1994 and 1998).
He played Midget Triple A Travel Hockey for Team Ohio in 1998-1999 and 1999-2000 seasons for Team Ohio, then coached by Bob Mainhardt, coach of the NAHL Youngstown Phantoms.
DeJoe has graduated from Neumann and is working on a MBA in International Business at the Drexel University LeBow School of Business.
