WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- J.J. Redick had plenty of help, even if he appeared to be a one-man team at times.
With old nemesis Chris Paul watching from a front-row seat, Redick scored 32 points to help No. 1 Duke hold off Wake Forest 82-64 Sunday night, leaving the Blue Devils one of only three unbeaten teams in Division I.
Lee Melchionni added 17 points for Duke (14-0, 2-0 Atlantic Coast Conference), which played a large part of the game without star center Shelden Williams.
He picked up his third foul with about 5 minutes left in the first half, then got his fourth soon after the break.
Williams played only 17 minutes but hardly was missed, thanks mostly to Redick.
He finished 12-of-21 from the field against a variety of defenses used by the 23rd-ranked Demon Deacons (11-3, 0-1).
West Virginia 91, No. 3 Villanova 87
VILLANOVA, Pa. -- Joe Herber scored 23 points, Kevin Pittsnogle added 22 and West Virginia handed Villanova its first loss of the season.
Mike Gansey added 21 points as the 24th-ranked Mountaineers (10-3, 2-0 Big East) beat their second top-10 opponent this season.
Randy Foye had 24 points and Mike Nardi scored 23 for Villanova (10-1, 1-1).
West Virginia came in as 111/2-point underdogs, but fought back from a double-digit deficit early in the second half. The Mountaineers, who beat then-No. 7 Oklahoma 92-68 last month, have won eight in a row after losing three straight in late November.
No. 4 Memphis 73, Winthrop 63
MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Rodney Carney had 21 points and Darius Washington scored seven of his 14 during a key stretch to help Memphis hold off Winthrop.
Carney shot 7-of-14, including 4-of-9 from 3-point range as the Tigers (13-2) won their second straight after losing to No. 15 Texas last week. Their only other loss was to No. 1 Duke in the Preseason NIT championship game.
Wisconsin 82, No. 7 Michigan State 63
MADISON, Wis. -- Kammron Taylor scored 27 points and Wisconsin beat Michigan State for the seventh time in eight meetings.
Taylor opened the second half with a jumper and a 3-pointer, touching off a 13-0 run that put the Badgers ahead 49-26 only 3 minutes into the half. Alando Tucker added 17 points for Wisconsin, which improved to 33-1 in conference home games under coach Bo Ryan.
The Badgers (12-2, 2-0 Big Ten) are one of only three Big Ten teams to get through the first week of conference play undefeated, joining Indiana and Northwestern.
Shannon Brown scored 31 points for Michigan State (12-4, 0-2), but Wisconsin held the Spartans' other two scoring threats, Maurice Ager and Paul Davis, in check.
Georgia Tech 60, No. 11 Boston College 58
ATLANTA -- Zam Fredrick hit a tiebreaking 3-pointer with 33.5 seconds left and Georgia Tech edged Boston College, which went more than 11 minutes without a field goal and struggled to make anything outside the lane. Craig Smith had 26 points for the Eagles (11-3, 0-2 Atlantic Coast Conference).
