Christian's OT goal lifts 'Hounds to win

Youngstown outlasted Fort Worth, 3-2, for its 13th victory.
FORT WORTH, Texas -- The Youngstown SteelHounds (13-18-1) won a dramatic overtime decision against the Fort Worth Brahmas (10-18-5) on Saturday night, 3-2.
Youngstown's Jeff Christian scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner just 37 seconds into overtime, as the Hounds finished a six-game road trip with a Northeast Division victory. The win is the third in three trips for the Hounds in Fort Worth.
Youngstown will begin a five-game home stand on Wednesday at the Chevrolet Centre against the Wichita Thunder. Face-off is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
In a tightly-contested first period, neither team could find the back of the net despite some solid chances and seven combined power plays. The SteelHounds outshot the Brahmas 10-6 and had four-man advantages but failed to connect against Larry Sterling, who made 10 saves in the frame.
St. Germain pads streak
David St. Germain extended his shutout streak against Fort Worth to 80 minutes. Shawn Mamane led the way for the Hounds with three shots on goal, and the first 20 minutes featured a tilt between Kris Mallette and Konrad Brand.
The SteelHounds scored the only goal of the second period early in the frame. Chris Richards drove the net, shoving a shot towards Sterling who couldn't find the bouncing puck that eventually ended up on the stick of Jeff Christian, who scored his 28th goal of the season. Richards and Chris Shaffer got the assists.
Fort Worth controlled much of the remainder of the period but St. Germain remained sharp, stopping all 12 shots he faced in the period. The Brahmas led 18-17 on the shot board through two periods.
Bad pass
The SteelHounds appeared in control until the midway point of the third period when J.R. Holmes made a pass he'd regret, turning the puck over to Cory Stillman, who walked in on a breakaway for his 13th goal of the season.
Fort Worth then took advantage of the power play with Wes Mason scoring his 11th goal of the season off a rebound.
Youngstown responded with a power play goal of its own as Holmes made up for his earlier pass by scoring on the man advantage with his second goal of the season at the 14:26 mark. Richards and Jonathan Gagnon got the assists.
The Hounds had to kill off a late Brahma power play but did so successfully, finishing the night killing nine of 10 Fort Worth man advantages.
The game headed to overtime where the Hounds did not take long to capture the victory. Christian had the puck at the far point and danced to his left and snapped a seemingly harmless shot at Sterling. A perfectly timed screen by Richards allowed the puck to sneak through for Christian's 29th goal of the year, his seventh game winner.
