hStars prepare to startfilming 'Good Shepherd'
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic -- Angelina Jolie, Robert De Niro, both shown above, and Matt Damon will soon begin shooting scenes for De Niro's latest work, "The Good Shepherd," in the Dominican Republic. The actors were to arrive by Saturday, said Felix Manuel Lora, spokesman for the national film office. "The government is going to help the crew with the logistics so they can do their work without any inconveniences," Lora told The Associated Press. "The Good Shepherd," which is directed by De Niro, recounts the history of the CIA. Damon plays James Wilson, one of the spy agency's founders; Jolie plays his wife. The production is expected to remain in the Dominican Republic one week. De Niro, 62, previously directed 1993's "A Bronx Tale."
Glitter faces chargesinvolving 2 young girls
HANOI, Vietnam -- Former British rocker Gary Glitter was formally charged Friday with committing obscene acts with two girls aged 10 and 11 at a Vietnamese resort town, prosecutors said. Glitter, 61, who won fame as a flamboyant glam rocker in the 1970s, is accused of kissing and engaging in other physical acts with the girls at his rental home in the southern coastal town of Vung Tau, prosecutor Nguyen Van Xung said. The charges carry prison terms of three to seven years, said Xung, who is deputy chief prosecutor in southern Ba Ria Vung Tau province. Glitter, whose real name is Paul Francis Gadd, originally faced possible child rape charges carrying the death penalty, but prosecutors did not find enough evidence for those charges, Xung said. He has been detained at a jail near Vung Tau since Nov. 19 after he was seized in Ho Chi Minh City trying to board a flight out of the country. Ba Ria Vung Tau provincial People's Court must still make the determination whether to put Glitter on trial, Xung said. Prosecutors said it was unlikely Glitter would be granted bail, saying the court would consider him a flight risk. Glitter is perhaps best known for his song "Rock and Roll [Part 2]," still often played at sporting events. He was convicted in Britain in 1999 of possessing child pornography and served half of a four-month jail term. He later went to Cambodia and was permanently expelled in 2002, but Cambodian officials did not specify any crime or file charges.
Cabaret singer's effectswill be auctioned off
NEW YORK -- The personal effects of cabaret singer Bobby Short, who died last year, are scheduled to go on the auction block next month. The Feb. 16 sale at Christie's will feature 250 items from Short's Manhattan apartment, including his Bechstein black lacquer grand piano. Short, who epitomized New York glamour and sophistication with renderings of the great American songbook, died of leukemia March 21, 2005, at the age of 80. Short was an institution at the Cafe Carlyle, the Manhattan nightclub at the Carlyle Hotel, where he performed for more than 35 years. His elegant lifestyle was manifested in the "cocktail chic" of his three-bedroom apartment, Christie's said. The grand piano, with bench, has a pre-sale estimate of $30,000 to $40,000. An art deco mahogany and parchment-veneered writing desk could fetch between $3,000 and $4,000 and a monogrammed Cartier silver ice bucket, which Short used regularly, could bring $2,000 to $3,000.

NEW YORK -- Scott Stapp, former lead singer of Creed, is engaged. Stapp and Jaclyn Nesheiwat, Miss New York USA 2004, will be married Feb. 10 in Florida, they announced this week. They met last January at a gala for the Muscular Dystrophy Association in New York. The couple became engaged late last year, the singer's publicist, Dvora Vener Englefield, told The Associated Press. Stapp, 32, founded the rock band Creed and won a Grammy Award in 2000 for the song "With Arms Wide Open." He struck out on his own last year with the solo album, "The Great Divide."
