Rayen tourney
YOUNGSTOWN -- Wilson defeated Ursuline 52-48 in double overtime Saturday at the Steel Valley Conference freshman boys basketball tournament, hosted by The Rayen School.
Randall Thomas led Wilson, the eighth seed, with 16 points, eight rebounds and five assists, while Mark Thornton added 14 points, six rebounds and three steals. Raylin Poindexter added 11 points, 14 rebounds and three blocked shots.
Ursuline, the No. 1 seed, was led by Lavance Turnage with 22 points, four rebounds and four steals, and Blair Williams with 11 points.
Warren Harding defeated Beaver Local, 66-36. For the second-seeded Raiders, Anthony Hill had 20 points and nine rebounds, and Paris Bruner had 14 points.
Beaver Local, the seventh seed, was led by Shawn Mercer (11 points) and Brady Gunter (10 points).
Mooney defeated Warren JFK, 55-34. For Mooney, the No. 4 seed, Jordon Sanders had 16 points and eight rebounds; Nick Flaviano had 14 points, and Vince Penza had 12 points.
JFK, the fifth seed, was led by Eric Ambrosy with eight points and six rebounds.
Rayen, the third seed, defeated No. 6 Chaney, 46-38.
Roncarlos Hilton, Kenny Carter and Odell Oakley scored 10 points each for Rayen. Hilton also had eight rebounds. For Chaney, Braylon Hudson scored 21 points and had six rebounds.
The tournament continues today, with Ursuline facing Chaney at 5:30 p.m., followed by JFK against Beaver Local. On Wednesday, Mooney plays Warren Harding at 5:30 p.m. and Rayen meets Wilson at 7.
Tickets are $2 for students and $3 for adults.
Prep track
ALLIANCE -- Lauren Agnew, a freshman on the Boardman High track team, placed third in two running events at the Mount Union Indoor track and field meet Saturday.
Agnew finished the 1,600-meter run in 5 minutes, 47.18 seconds, and the 800 in 2:35.06.
Freshman Corey Carter placed fourth in the high jump (5-feet).
Ohio Red Bulls
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Ohio Red Bulls Minor League Football Team, a member of the United States Football Association, will hold registration for players for the 2006 season on Saturday at 4 p.m. at West Elementary School on Hazelwood Avenue.
Each candidate must be 18 years old or older and out of high school, and must present identification and photograph at registration and also a $10 non-refundable application fee.

Junior hockey
GATES MILLS -- The Youngstown Jr. Phantom Pee Wees advanced to the championship game in the Pee Wee A2 division of the Cleveland Suburban Hockey League with a 9-1 victory over Columbus Sunday at Gilmour Academy.
The Phantoms scored five goals in the first period, including two by Corey Barnhouse (who finished with three). Nick Malvasi, Jared Taylor and Lucas Clarke also scored in the first period.
Ryan Demyen added goals in the second and third periods and Malvasi finished the scoring in the third.
Mike Gorgacz had three assists while Zach Jones, Taylor and Clarke added two apiece, and Brandon Nightingale and Joel Mathews had one each.
Brennan Allen played a strong game in the net.
The Phantoms take on Parma Sunday at Strongsville for the A2 divison championship.

*AMHERST, N.Y. -- Calvin Cage led Buffalo with 21 points as the Bulls defeated Bowling Green 81-67.
Yassin Idbihi and Mario Jordan added 19 points and 10 rebounds each for Buffalo (17-11, 7-9).
Bowling Green (9-18, 5-11) lost its fifth straight.
*TOLEDO -- Justin Ingram scored 18 points and Tyrone Kent added 16 as Toledo defeated Ball State 81-54.
Jerrah Young and Kashif Payne each scored 11 points for the Rockets, who lost the teams' meeting last month in Muncie.
The Rockets (15-10, 8-8 Mid-American Conference) shot 49 percent from the field while holding the Cardinals to 35 percent.
D'Andre Peyton led the Cardinals (9-16, 5-11) with 11 points and was the only Ball State player to score in the double digits.
*DEKALB, Ill. -- Todd Peterson scored 22 points in leading Northern Illinois to a 94-61 victory over Eastern Michigan.

Clausen winsBassmaster Classic
KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- Luke Clausen persevered Sunday through steady rain and 20-mph winds to win the Bassmaster Classic on Lake Tohopekaliga.
Clausen's catch of 11 pounds, 13 ounces, gave him a three-day total of 56 pounds, 2 ounces, breaking the tournament's previous record of 55 pounds, 10 ounces.
Rick Morris of Lanexa, Va., finished second with a total of 51 pounds. Ron Shuffield of Bismarck, Ark., placed third with 47 pounds, 14 ounces.
Terry Scroggins of Palatka, Fla., the favorite entering the tournament, finished fourth -- 46 pounds, 15 ounces.
Defending champion Kevin VanDam of Kalamazoo, Mich., rounded out the top five -- 44 pounds, 8 ounces.
