Arthritis exercise program
WARREN -- Eschman Physical Therapy and the Trumbull County Board of Health are offering the Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program, a free eight-week (16 classes) program at the Warren Scope Senior Center, 220 W. Market St. Classes begin March 7, and are twice a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 3:15 to 4:15 p.m. To register, call (330) 372-5800 or (330) 399-8846.
The Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program, developed in 1986, involves instruction in gentle stretching, relaxation techniques and range-of-motion exercises specifically designed for people with arthritis. Health education will also be provided to improve personal health and independence. Emily Smith, a physical therapist and an employee of Eschman Physical Therapy, is the instructor.
Spin/Yoga for a Cure
BOARDMAN -- The ninth annual American Cancer Society Spin/Yoga for a Cure is March 25 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Boardman Center Middle School, 7410 Market St.
Master spinning presenter Josh Taylor will teach a three-hour ride beginning at noon. Two 45-minute spinning sessions taught by area instructors and starting at 10 a.m. will precede Taylor. Classes are suitable for all skill levels, and refreshments donated by local vendors will be available to participants. There will also be a Chinese raffle and silent auction.
Corporate and individual sponsorships are available. To get involved on an individual level, a participant must raise a minimum of $100 to ride for one hour (first two sessions), $125 per session with Josh Taylor (last three sessions), or $500 per person to ride the entire five sessions. Corporate sponsorships start at $250. Incentive prizes go to individuals raising the most money.

Free mammograms
The American Cancer Society's B.E.S.T. ((Breast Education and Screening Together) program provides free mammograms to women who qualify based on income guidelines. For instance, a single woman with an annual income of $23,000 is eligible.
Grants from the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation Northeast Ohio Affiliate pay for the mammograms for women who qualify in Carroll, Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties. In Jefferson County, the BEST program is funded from donations collected by the American Cancer Society.

Sharon heart program
SHARON, Pa. -- Sharon Regional Health System has been recognized by the American Heart Association for implementing the Get With The Guidelines-Heart Failure (GWTG-HF) at its hospital.
The quality improvement initiative, which helps close the treatment gap in acute and secondary prevention of heart failure, provides the hospital staff with tools that follow proven evidence-based guidelines and procedures.
