Composer to be at St. Luke parish mission



BOARDMAN -- Dan Schutte, a Christian composer, will be the presenter for the 2006 parish mission "Alive in the Spirit: A Parish Prays and Sings" during Masses at 4:30 p.m. March 4 Saturday and March 9 and 11 a.m. March 5 at St. Luke Church, 5235 South Ave. The mission, a free event, is an opportunity for spiritual growth through music and prayer.
Other mission presentations scheduled are "With Generous Heart" at 3 p.m. March 5, "Nothing is Impossible with God" at 9 a.m. March 6 and "Companions in Christ" at 7 p.m. March 6. Receptions will follow the March 5 afternoon and March 6 evening events.
Schutte is the composer in residence at the University of San Francisco and director of music for the Office of University Ministries.
A native of Milwaukee, Schutte has been composing music for worship for 30 years. Many of his compositions have been translated into other languages and published in hymnals throughout the world. Among his better-known selections are "Here I Am Lord," "City of God," "Though the Mountains May Fall," "Blest Be the Lord" and "Glory and Praise to Our God."
