SteelHounds hang on for shootout victory



Youngstown is 5-0 against the Forth Worth Brahmas this season.
FORTH WORTH, Texas -- The Youngstown SteelHounds squandered a 3-0 lead for the second straight game but had the last word, defeating the Fort Worth Brahmas,5-4 in a shootout in a Central Hockey League game Monday night.
Ben Manny started the game with a goal and finished it with the shootout winner and Joey Sewell had two goals and an assist for the SteelHounds (20-27-3), who went 5-2-1 on an eight-game road trip and improved to 5-0 this season against the Brahmas.
Manny's fifth goal of the season that snuck past Fort Worth goaltender Larry Sterling just 32 seconds into the game -- the fastest goal to start a game this season for the 'Hounds.
Manny's fifth goal of the season was assisted by Darryl Lloyd and Kelly Sickavish.
Hard shot
Youngstown made it 2-0 on a goal by Joey Sewell, his 10th, which was set-up by a hard shot from between the circles by Chris Richards that Sterling stopped but left the rebound in the crease for Sewell.
Richards and Jeff Christian drew the assists, each extending their point streaks to 10 straight games.
Richards set up another goal, throwing a pass from behind the net to the slot where Kris Mallette blasted a shot that Sewell deflected by Sterling at the 14:04 mark.
Fort Worth (13-28-8) scored with just 18 seconds remaining in the first period, as David Silverstone backhanded a rebound by David St. Germain for his fifth goal.
Youngstown generated several scoring chances in the first half of the second period but Andrew Martin, who replaced Sterling, stopped 13 shots.
The Brahmas took advantage of sloppy play by the 'Hounds to tie the score on a pair of goals -- one short-handed -- Jimmy Sokol.
Each time scored once in the third period. Jeff Christian scored his 45th goal of the season, assisted by Richards and Sewell, at the 3:06 mark, but Fort Worth's Silverstone tied it again just 41 seconds later.
Five score
After a scoreless overtime, the SteelHounds scored five times in the shootout. Joey Sewell, Chris Shaffer, Darryl Lloyd, J.F. Labarre and Ben Manny scored for Youngstown.
Youngstown outshot Fort Worth 33-31, as St. Germain made 27 saves and improved his record to 15-20-2.
The SteelHounds begin a five-game home stand Wednesday night when they play host to the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs at 7:05 p.m. at the Chevrolet Centre.
