Newton Falls girls OT winner in first round



ROOTSTOWN -- Kortni Collins and Casce Piquet hit the key shots in regulation and overtime to lead Newton Falls High to a 61-58 win over Cleveland Martin Luther King Monday night in a first-round game of the Rootstown Division III girls district basketball tournament.
Collins' two free throws with two seconds remaining pulled Newton Falls into a 53-53 regulation tie.
Then with the score tied at 55 in overtime, Piquet hit a 3-point goal with 2:30 left to give the Tigers a 58-55 lead, while Piquet, Collins and Emily Montgomery each made a free throw down the stretch to ensure the victory.
Danielle Clonch scored 14 points while Collins finished with 13 points and Piquet 10 to lead Newton Falls (7-14), which advanced to play top-seeded Waterloo (18-2) Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
Montgomery and Kelsey Werner added six points each.
Shay General scored 20 points to pace Martin Luther King (4-13), while Viola Parish had 19 and Shaquanna Reed 13.
