Just buy American

Just buy American
EDITOR:
Do you want to turn America around? Do you like the direction we're going in? Are you willing to pay the price to help turn it around?
If all shoes were made in a foreign country would you go shoeless in the winter? Of course not. But you could begin by boycotting one brand-name shoe or the countries that make them one at a time. When you think about it, you will realize that the downfall of America did not happen over night. There are no quick fixes, no over night, next day delivery answers. It will be slow and the further down the tube we go, the longer it will take. To turn our jobs and economy around we must also be willing to pay the price to have American made shoes (products). We Americans need to make a living wage and need health insurance.
We can continue supporting foreign made products, but will have no excuse to resent people on public assistance. We can either help bring our jobs home to provide jobs and protect the dignity of all Americans, or we can continue blindly on till we too will be among the ranks of the underemployed and unemployed.
Also, I am not the least bit interested in anyone who says well if they made a better product I would buy it. As far as I am concerned if an American made it, it is the best deal I will ever get.

What are the odds, Darwin?

Now that the Ohio State Board of Education has decided that "intelligent design" needs to be dropped in favor of teaching evolution, I feel that we have the right to insist that evolution be taught honestly. That would mean that the course would have to include a course on the odds of compound probability. Is that scientific? You betcha, quite literally. It is the principle on which every game of chance sits from the Las Vegas slots to every state lottery. Since public education in Ohio is funded in part from the proceeds of the lottery it would seem hypocritical that they would refuse to teach it. It is that which says that if you have one factor your odds are 50/50. Add a second factor and your odds become one in four. Add a third factor and your odds jump to one in 16 and so on. In the super lotto choosing just six single and/or double digit numbers runs your odds to a mind blowing one in about 11 million. Now consider the complexity of the human eye or nervous system and you begin to see the problem. Scientists, by the way, consider anything with lesser odds than one in 10 to the 22nd power to be "scientifically impossible".
Evolution stands on two legs, random chance and natural selection. Eliminate a creator, and you have patheticly little with which to work.
Before we relegate the Bible to the fiction section as the board wants to do it might be wise to consider that the Bible revealed things such as the world is suspended in space, light is in motion, air has weight, blood is the source of life to the flesh, there is a hydrologic cycle, the stars are uncountable, the ocean has currents, the earth is round, principles of sterilization and principles of quarantine long before they were "discovered" by science. Science has always been behind the curve because science is not the source of knowledge but the search for knowledge.
It might also be wise to consider that in over 2000 years, the Bible has never been revised, reversed or found to be in error when speaking on scientific matters. Show me one science book that can honestly make that claim.
