Law enforcement programs get grants



Ohio Office of Criminal Justice Services has awarded more than $350,000 in Mahoning County and nearly $150,000 in Trumbull County to law enforcement and court programs.
The awards are annual Edward J. Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grants, which are intended to be seed money for new and worthy programs that improve the criminal and juvenile justice systems.
Local award recipients are:
Mahoning County Prosecutor's Office, $74,990 for Gun Investigation Unit.
Youngstown Police Department, $65,064 for Youngstown Metropolitan Housing Authority Detail.
Youngstown Police Department, $149,999 for Mahoning Valley Law Enforcement Task Force (includes Columbiana County).
Mahoning County Mental Health Board, $25,900 for Common Pleas Mental Health Court.
Youngstown Municipal Court, $36,000 for court security enhancement.
Trumbull County Sheriff's Office, $149,999 for Law Enforcement Task Force.
OCJS is one of seven divisions of Ohio Department of Public Safety. It awarded nearly $1.2 million in JAG Program money to projects statewide.
