HAPPY 100TH BIRTHDAY Maxine (Miller) Palisin



Born: Feb. 19, 1906, in Garrettsville; moved to Youngstown in 1909.
Parents: Mr. and Mrs. C. Harry Miller, who had lived at 90 E. Evergreen Ave. He had a photography studio at 31 W. Federal St.
Married: Michael Ervin Palisin of Struthers in 1932, and they lived at 3735 Elbertus Ave. He died in 1984.
Residence: Nettles Island in Jensen Beach, Fla., where she and her husband purchased property after retiring. Tomorrow she will move to 2670 Saddlewood Circle, Concord, N.C., to live with her son and daughter-in-law, Robert E. and Joan Palisin, and where she will take part in the Coltrane L.I.F.E. program for senior citizens.
Other family: Daughter, Shirley Jeanne Craven; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Education: A 1924 graduate of South High School and a 1928 graduate of Ohio University with a bachelor's degree in education. In 1928 she became a shorthand, typing and bookkeeping teacher at Chaney High School, and she was a substitute teacher during World War II. In 1952 she began to teach at Mineral Ridge High School, then she taught at Springfield Local High School in Petersburg from 1955 until she retired in 1972.
Memberships: Joined the Trinity United Methodist Church and attended the Lakeside Youth Conferences. She was a member of Youngstown Federation of Women's Clubs, including Licultra, Sans Souci and Panhellenic Council, and served as president of Youngstown Investment Club and of Theta Upsilon Sorority.
Travels: She has visited all 50 states and 33 different countries. She and her husband made two excursions to Europe and took two Caribbean cruises and a cruise to the inner passage to Alaska.
Vivid memories: She recalls the sinking of the Titanic and how she survived childhood diphtheria and the original swine influenza.
Celebration: A party will be held today at the home of a grandson, Brian Palisin, in Ridgeway, S.C., with 12 of her 14 family members in attendance.
