Wilson upends Mooney; Chaney pulls past Rayen



Boardman and Fitch both lost Federal League tournament games.
YOUNGSTOWN -- It took the Wilson High boys basketball team an extra period to defeat Mooney, 91-86, Friday in the Cardinals' gymnasium.
The Redmen (8-10, 3-3 Steel Valley Conference) outscored the Cardinals 17-12 in the overtime with Lamar McQueen scoring all of his six points and Justin Maxwell seven of his 20.
William Johnson took scoring honors with 30 points while Keith Tubbs and Glen Brown each scored 13 for Wilson.
Jaron Howell and L.J. Sutton led the Cardinals (8-9, 3-3) with 24 points apiece. Desmond Marrow added 15 and Dan McCarthy had 11.
Chaney 87, Rayen 77
YOUNGSTOWN -- Antonio Fitzgerald had 28 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists while Dominique Peake added 27 points, 11 rebounds and two steals for Chaney, which outscored Rayen 27-15 in the third quarter to take control.
Kory Jackson with 15 points, four rebounds and four assists for Chaney (5-15) while Corey Council added 11 points.
Jamayle Roland had 23 points and Justin Queener had 13 points and nine rebounds for Rayen (3-15). Matt Gordon added 11 points and 10 rebounds and Gary Thornton had 11 points.
Ursuline 63, Beaver Local 18
LISBON -- D'Aundray Brown scored 16 points to lead Ursuline (12-6, 5-1 SVC), while Lance Randall added 10.
LeShawn Hunt had four points for Beaver Local (0-19, 0-6 SVC).
The Irish made 25-for-50 from the field and had a 34-11 advantage in rebounds.
Lake 71, Fitch 62
CANTON -- Eric Coblentz poured in 33 points to lead Lake in a contest for seventh place at the Federal League Tournament at the Canton Civic Center.
Corey Niggel added 13 points and Ross Nisly 11 to lead Lake (7-12).
James Wallace tossed in 34 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead Fitch (2-16), while Jon Stockman added 13.
North Canton Hoover 59, Boardman 41
CANTON -- Barry Shetzer scored 21 points, including four 3-point goals, to lead North Canton Hoover in a duel for fifth place in the Federal League Tournament at the Canton Civic Center.
N'Gai Evans added 17 points and J.D. Elder 10 to reinforce North Canton Hoover (12-7).
John Kocon had 10 points to pace Boardman (10-9) while Nick Shirilla added nine and Andrew Chifolo eight as the Spartans placed sixth.
Salem 59, Niles 38
NILES -- Tom Jesko's 19 points and Ryan Benchwick's 18 led the Metro Athletic Conference-champion Quakers (15-2, 9-1).
Tyler Pierce scored 10 while Benchwick pulled down nine rebounds. For Niles (11-8, 6-4), Bill Frech scored 14 points.
Ashtabula Sts. John and Paul 51,Youngstown Christian 48
YOUNGSTOWN -- Dominic Vitullo had 20 points and seven rebounds, Aaron Agresta had 12 points, five assists and three steals and Anthony LaGamba added seven assists for Youngstown Christian (6-13), which was outscored 21-11 in the fourth quarter.
Jason Blank scored 14 points for Ashtabula.
West Branch 69, Carrollton 64
CARROLLTON -- Shane Young converted 11 of 13 free throws and finished with 22 points to lead the Warriors (14-5, 8-5).
Brandon McMillen had 11 rebounds for West Branch.
Southeast 74, Norton 62
RAVENNA -- Frank Locher scored 22 points, Micah Herndon scored 18 points and Derek Steel added 13 for Southeast (9-10), which outscored Norton 24-15 in the fourth quarter to put the game away.
