Beauty salon offers services to the public by appointment
CANFIELD -- The cosmetology department at the Mahoning County Career & amp; Technical Center has opened its beauty salon to the public.
Junior students enrolled in the program have completed their 400-hour learning and skills test and will offer customer service under the direction of Linda Tomko, licensed cosmetology instructor at the school.
Junior students will staff the salon beginning at 8 a.m. every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday for the rest of the school year. Senior students will be in the salon beginning at noon on those same days.
Appointments are required and should be made the day before the customer's desired visit by calling the salon at (330) 729-4000, Ext. 1708.
What's offered
Students offer a variety of services, including haircuts, shampoos, sets, perms, color and highlights, manicures and facials. Fees are based on the services provided, Tomko said, citing manicures at $6 and perms at $22 as examples of pricing.
The program has 19 students qualified to provide those services, she said.
The school opens its salon to the public every year about this time, once junior students have completed their 400-hour test.
Tomko said the first day of public operation is limited to students' parents who receive their services for free.
The career center's cosmetology program is licensed by the Ohio State Board of cosmetology and prepares its graduates to take the take exam for licensing in Ohio.
