Three arrested at flea market
WARREN -- Three men are free on $3,500 surety bonds after being charged with trademark counterfeiting after a raid Tuesday at the Warren Flea Market, 428 Main Ave. S.W.
Fred C. McCall Jr., 48, of Akron; Louis A. Barrett, 35, of Canton; and Nicki Warfield, 29, of Warren, appeared before Municipal Judge Thomas P. Gysegem Wednesday on the fourth-degree felony charges. They're scheduled for preliminary hearings before Judge Gysegem at 1:30 p.m. March 9.
The three vendors were arrested when city police, accompanied by investigators from the Motion Picture Association of America and the Recording Industry Association of America, raided the flea market Tuesday after a two-month investigation that was triggered by complaints to the MPAA and city police.
Police made undercover buys of bootlegged CDs and DVDs Tuesday and previously, Detective Michael Currington of the city police said.
Police seized several thousand bootlegged CDs and DVDs in Tuesday's raid, Currington said. Some of the DVDs being offered for sale Tuesday at the flea market featured movies still being shown in theaters, he added.
Police also seized suspected counterfeit clothing in the raid, but nobody has been charged in connection with the clothing, he added.
