STEELHOUNDS Youngstown chills home of the Ice Bats



The SteelHounds won for the third time in their last four road games.
AUSTIN, Texas -- The Youngstown SteelHounds (18-26-2) accomplished Sunday what previous 10 teams that played in the Taylor County Expo Center could not do and that was come away with a victory.
Jeff Christian recorded a hat trick as the 'Hounds won for the third time in their last four road games, 4-3, over the Austin Ice Bats (23-21-3), ending their 10-game home winning streak.
Simon St. Pierre made 32 saves to earn the victory for Youngstown.
Julian Smith had two goals and an assist for Austin.
Goaltender key
The SteelHounds continued their strong play on their eight-game road trip by scoring the only goal of the first period. The Ice Bats were kept in the game by CHL goaltender of the month, Miguel Beaudry, who made 11 saves. The lone goal was scored by Jeff Christian, who notched his league-leading 40th of the season by taking a deflected Sam Miller shot in the slot and burying it into a partially-vacated net. Miller and Joey Sewell had the assists on the goal scored at the 4:52 mark.
In the second period, the Bats generated several scoring chances in the first few minutes and scored the tying goal as Mike Tucciarone notched his 21st of the season, assisted by Smith and Aaron Schneekloth at 1:43.
Christian scored a short-handed goal at the 7:39 mark, giving Youngstown the lead. It was the 'Hounds' eighth goal of the season when down a man. The SteelHounds made it 3-1 at 17:49 on Jonathan Gagnon's 10th goal of the season, assisted by J.F. Labarre and Mario Chinelli scored at the 17:49 mark of the period.
Austin scored early in the third period on Smith's power play goal at 1:18. Smith tied the game at 14:43 on another power play.
But, Youngstown responded just 13 seconds later as Christian capped off the night with the hat trick and his league-leading ninth game-winning goal of the season, assisted by Chris Richards and Matt Hanson.
The Bats outshot the Hounds, 35-31, as St. Pierre won his first decision since November 22nd and improved to 5-7-0 on the season.
The 'Hounds travel to Bossier-Shreveport Tuesday at 8:05 p.m.

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- The SteelHounds' road winning streak came to an end with a 4-3 loss to the Oklahoma City Blazers.
Ex-SteelHound Scott Barnes scored two goals for Oklahoma City, including the game-winner.
Joey Sewell scored twice for the SteelHounds but it wasn't enough against Blazers goalie Sean Connors, who made 31 saves to earn his league-leading 22nd win of the season.
Labarre also scored for Youngstown and David St. Germain made 42 saves.
