McDonald, Niles mull merging 911
McDONALD -- If a new plan to provide more extensive 911 coverage works out, the village may soon be merging with Niles' service center.
Police Chief Lou Ronghi said at Wednesday's council meeting that he hoped the merger would take place by March 15. The idea is to provide better service to residents and to build upon rapport between the police and fire departments, he said.
Earlier this week, Weathersfield's 911 system merged with Niles, and village officials want to be sure there is proper staffing at the Niles center before making the move, the chief said. Talks with Niles officials about the plan began last year, Ronghi added.
In other business, council approved second reading of the proposed $3,738,839 budget for 2006.
